Leitz introduced the Macro-Elmarit-R 60mm f/2.8 in 1972. On its own it focuses to 0.27 m and half life size, and with Leica's Macro-Adapter-R it reaches 1:1. Erwin Puts found high contrast and crisp fine detail wide open, low vignetting, no visible distortion, and close-up results as good as at infinity. He rated it more even from center to corner than the Summicron-R 50mm and suggested it as an alternative standard lens. Leica's own data sheet says it's flare-free even in difficult light. A 1980 update brought E55 filters and trimmed the weight to about 400 g, and Leica made it until the R system ended in 2009. On a mirrorless body it's a sharp, slightly long normal lens that also does product shots and flowers, and on APS-C it frames like a 90mm. If you want 1:1, look for a listing with the adapter included.
On a mirrorless camera
It’s a Leica R lens, and its mount sits 47 mm from the film. Every mirrorless mount below sits closer than that, so a plain adapter ring fills the gap and the lens still focuses to infinity. On a smaller sensor it frames tighter, like a longer lens.
Versions
Version I (1972–1980) takes Series 7 filters and weighs about 450 g, code 11203. Version II (1980–2009) takes E55 filters and weighs about 400 g, codes 11212 and 11253, or 11347 for the ROM lens. Both are listed with the same 6-element, 5-group design. The Macro-Adapter-R that takes it from 1:2 to 1:1 is a separate accessory. Camera-wiki notes the lens fits the Leicaflex SL2 and later Leica bodies only.
Haze, fungus and oily aperture blades are the usual age faults. Macro lenses get used close to subjects and racked out a lot, so check the long focus travel for stiffness and the front element for marks.

We'd buy a 3-cam copy from a US dealer, like the one with caps at $400 delivered with free shipping, well under the $525–800 band. There are at least 38 for sale and most ask $525–800 delivered, mostly from Japan dealers, while US dealers ask $377–444 and ROM copies run $877–1,173. On its own it focuses to 0.27 m and half life size, and 1:1 needs Leica's separate Macro-Adapter-R, which none of the listings here include. Macro lenses get racked out a lot, so ask for a flashlight photo through the back and one of the blades at f/8, check on arrival that focus feels even all the way to 0.27 m, and skip the $2,499 ROM copy at about four times the median. It needs a Leica R adapter, and the model page lists the adapters by camera.
