Olympus made only one 85mm for the OM system, and it's a small one. The 85mm f/2 is about the size of a standard lens, weighs 260 g and still takes 49 mm filters. Olympus gave it a close-range correction mechanism that shifts elements as you focus toward its 0.85 m minimum, and for a while it was the only Zuiko tele with one. There are two optical versions. The early F.Zuiko Auto-T has six elements in four groups, and the later Zuiko Auto-T, without the F, has five in four. Both keep the close-range correction, and the newer one weighs the same despite the missing element. On a full-frame mirrorless body it's a light portrait lens with a bright f/2 finder view. On APS-C it frames like a 128mm, and on Micro Four Thirds like a 170mm. Olympus showed an 85mm f/1.4 as a prototype in 1989 but never sold it, so a listing claiming one deserves a hard look.

Which adapter, and what it becomes
It’s a Olympus OM lens, and its mount sits 46 mm from the film. Every mirrorless mount below sits closer than that, so a plain adapter ring fills the gap and the lens still focuses to infinity. On a smaller sensor it frames tighter, like a longer lens.
The early F.Zuiko Auto-T has six elements in four groups. The later Zuiko Auto-T, without the F, has five elements in four groups at the same weight. Both have the close-range correction mechanism. An 85mm f/1.4 was shown as a prototype in 1989 and never sold.
What to check
Besides the usual haze, fungus and oily blades, the floating close-range group adds moving parts, so focus feel matters. Both versions have cemented groups, so look for separation too.
01Haze: Ask for a photo with a flashlight shining through the lens from the back. The glass should look clear, with no grey fog.
02Fungus: Check the same photo for fine branching threads or spots. Clean glass shows nothing but the odd speck of dust.
03Separation: Look in that photo for a rainbow sheen or a pale patch at the edge of one element. Good glass looks evenly clear right to the rim.
04Aperture blades: Ask for a photo of the blades stopped down to f/8. They should be dry and matte, with no shine or oil spots.
05Dealer grade: Treat a Japanese seller's grade like Exc+5 or Mint- as their opinion. Ask for a photo through the lens against a light.
06Focus ring: On arrival, focus from 0.85 m to infinity and back several times. It should feel smooth and even all the way, with no catch near close focus.
We'd buy the F.Zuiko a Japan dealer grades Exc+5, with its hood, at $345 delivered, under the band, or ask the German dealer about the $245 copy, the cheapest here by $45. There are at least 25 for sale and most ask $360–550 delivered, mostly from Japan dealers, while US sellers here ask $290–419, the top one from a zero-feedback account. The early F.Zuiko Auto-T has six elements and the later Zuiko Auto-T five, and both have a close-range correction mechanism with moving parts, so focus feel matters and you can only judge it in hand. Ask for a flashlight photo through the back for haze, fungus and separation in the cemented groups, and skip the $1,106 copy at about 2.9 times the median. It needs an Olympus OM adapter, and the model page lists the adapters by camera.

The lowest delivered complete lens here, at $245 from a 99.7% German dealer who lists two copies. The card says New on a decades-old lens and the title makes no condition claim, so ask for a flashlight photo through the back and one of the blades at f/8.
An early F.Zuiko graded Exc+5 with the hood in the title, at $345 delivered from a 100% Japan dealer, $15 under the band. The grade is the dealer's own, so ask for a flashlight photo through the back.
