Minolta brought out a 200mm f/4 in the mid-1970s to replace its slower 200mm f/4.5, and the MD Tele Rokkor-X version followed in 1977. It has five elements in five groups with a 55 mm filter thread, focusing to about 2.5 m and stopping down to f/32. It's shorter and lighter than the MC version, which stops at f/22, and from 1981 the same design was sold as the plain MD 200mm f/4. Minolta also made Celtic-branded 200mm f/4 lenses, and one MC Celtic used a different six-element design, so read the name ring in the photos. On a full-frame mirrorless body it's a long, light tele for daylight. On APS-C it frames like a 300mm, and on Micro Four Thirds like a 400mm, where a tripod or a fast shutter speed helps. All five elements are air-spaced, so balsam separation isn't something you need to worry about.
Minolta SR bayonet, MD generation, with both the MC meter-coupling tab and the MD minimum-aperture tab. Adapters ignore both.

On a mirrorless camera
Which adapter, and what it becomes
It’s a Minolta SR (MC / MD) lens, and its mount sits 43.5 mm from the film. Every mirrorless mount below sits closer than that, so a plain adapter ring fills the gap and the lens still focuses to infinity. On a smaller sensor it frames tighter, like a longer lens.
The MC Tele Rokkor-X 200mm f/4 from the mid-1970s has the same five-element count but a longer, heavier barrel that stops at f/22. The MD Tele Rokkor-X is shorter and stops at f/32, and the plain MD 200mm f/4 from 1981 keeps its design. One MC Celtic 200mm f/4 uses a six-element design, and the 200mm f/2.8 and f/3.5 are much bigger lenses.
What to check
Long lenses pick up knocks, so look for dents on the filter ring and a wobbly barrel, plus the usual haze, fungus and oily blades. The elements are all air-spaced, so separation isn't a concern.
01Haze: Ask for a photo with a flashlight shining through the lens from the back. The glass should look clear, with no grey fog.
02Fungus: Check the same photo for fine branching threads or spots. Clean glass shows nothing but the odd speck of dust.
03Filter ring: Look at the front of the barrel in the photos for dents. The filter ring should be round, so a 55 mm filter or hood threads on cleanly.
04Aperture blades: Ask for a photo of the blades stopped down to f/8. They should be dry and matte, with no shine or oil spots.
05Version: Read the front ring in the photos for MD and 1:4. A Celtic name means Minolta's budget line, and one MC Celtic uses a different design.
06Focus ring: On arrival, turn the focus from 2.5 m to infinity and back. It should feel smooth and even, with no play in the barrel.
We'd buy the MD Tele Rokkor titled good and tested, with a case and caps, at $64 delivered, or the US seller's $71 Rokkor-X that comes with a Sony E adapter if you shoot Sony. This page is thin, with at least 15 for sale and three of those for parts or as is, mostly from US sellers, so the $45–75 band is a rough guide. The MD Tele Rokkor-X and the plain MD from 1981 share five air-spaced elements, 55 mm filters and an f/32 stop, and a Celtic name on the front ring means Minolta's budget line. Long lenses pick up knocks, so look for dents on the filter ring in the photos and ask for a flashlight photo through the back, and skip the $73 copy titled as is and not tested and the $113 one at about 1.8 times the median. Unless the adapter comes with it, it needs a Minolta SR/MD adapter, and the model page lists the adapters by camera.
