The MD 135mm f/3.5 is really two lenses under one name. The first MD Tele Rokkor-X, from 1977, is the old four-element, four-group design with a 55 mm filter thread. A later MD Tele Rokkor-X switched to five elements in five groups and 49 mm filters, with ø49mm marked on the front, and that design carried on as the plain MD 135mm f/3.5 from 1981. The five-element version weighs about 285 g. Both focus to 1.5 m and stop down to f/22, so the filter size on the front ring is the quickest way to tell them apart. Minolta also sold Celtic-branded 135mm f/3.5 lenses with simpler coatings, and they look much the same in listings. On a full-frame mirrorless body it's a light, slow short tele for daylight. On APS-C it frames like a 200mm, and on Micro Four Thirds like a 270mm.
On a mirrorless camera
It’s a Minolta SR (MC / MD) lens, and its mount sits 43.5 mm from the film. Every mirrorless mount below sits closer than that, so a plain adapter ring fills the gap and the lens still focuses to infinity. On a smaller sensor it frames tighter, like a longer lens.
Versions
The first MD Tele Rokkor-X 135mm f/3.5 kept the older four-element, four-group design with a 55 mm filter thread. A later MD Tele Rokkor-X, marked ø49mm, has five elements in five groups and 49 mm filters, and the plain MD 135mm f/3.5 from 1981 keeps that design. MC and MD Celtic 135mm f/3.5 lenses are Minolta's budget line with simpler coatings.
Expect the usual age faults, mainly haze, fungus and oil on the blades. Both the four-element and five-element versions are air-spaced throughout, so balsam separation isn't a concern.

Buying guide
We'd buy the US seller's MD titled clean with its caps and built-in hood at $51 delivered, or pay $56 for the New MD titled tested and Mint with the box in the photo. There are at least 47 for sale and most ask $40–80 delivered, mostly from US sellers, and the cheapest complete copy here is $31 with a case. The first MD Tele Rokkor-X is a four-element lens with 55 mm filters, while copies marked ø49mm and the plain MD from 1981 are the five-element version, so read the filter size on the front ring, and a Celtic name means Minolta's budget line. Ask for a flashlight photo through the back for haze and fungus and one of the blades at f/8, and skip the $100 Japan copy at about twice the median and the zero-feedback seller. It needs a Minolta SR/MD adapter, and the model page lists the adapters by camera.
