Adapter · Minolta MD to Micro Four Thirds adapter
A Minolta SR (MC / MD) lens was built to sit 43.5 mm from the film. A Micro Four Thirds camera's mount sits 19.25 mm from its sensor, so an adapter 24.25 mm deep puts the lens back where it was designed to be, and it focuses from close up to infinity with no glass in between.
MC and MD lenses fit the same SR adapter, and the MC coupling and MD lever simply go unused. With no camera body controlling it, the lens shoots at the f-stop set on its ring. Don't mix these up with Minolta's autofocus lenses for Maxxum, Dynax and Alpha cameras, which use the A-mount Minolta introduced in 1985 and need a different adapter.
