Olympus built the OM system around small bodies and small lenses, and the Zuiko 28mm f/2.8 is one of the tiniest wides it made. It's 32 mm long, weighs 170 g and takes the same 49 mm filters as most of the OM line. Olympus added it after the 28mm f/2 and f/3.5, filling the gap between an expensive fast lens and a slow budget one, and it became one of the most popular Zuiko wides. Inside are six separate elements in six groups, with nothing cemented, and the aperture stops down to f/22 where the other Zuiko 28s stop at f/16. Like every OM lens, its aperture ring sits at the front of the barrel by the filter thread, which takes a few minutes to get used to on an adapter. On a full-frame mirrorless body it's a classic 28mm. On APS-C it frames like a 42mm, and on Micro Four Thirds like a 56mm. Copies with MC on the front ring are the later ones, from around 1981 or 1982.

Which adapter, and what it becomes
It’s a Olympus OM lens, and its mount sits 46 mm from the film. Every mirrorless mount below sits closer than that, so a plain adapter ring fills the gap and the lens still focuses to infinity. On a smaller sensor it frames tighter, like a longer lens.
Olympus made three manual-focus 28s for the OM system. The f/2 has nine elements and a close-range correction system, the f/3.5 (G.Zuiko Auto-W) has seven elements and stops at f/16, and this f/2.8 has six air-spaced elements and stops down to f/22. Copies marked MC on the front ring are the later ones, from around 1981 or 1982.
What to check
Expect the usual age problems on a lens this old, mainly haze, fungus and oil on the aperture blades. Its six elements are all air-spaced, so balsam separation isn't a worry here.
01Haze: Ask for a photo with a flashlight shining through the lens from the back. The glass should look clear, with no grey fog.
02Fungus: Check the same photo for fine branching threads or spots. Clean glass shows nothing but the odd speck of dust.
03Front element: Look at the front element at an angle in the photos. Faint cleaning marks are fine, and a deep scratch or chip near the centre isn't.
04Aperture blades: Ask for a photo of the blades stopped down to f/8. They should be dry and matte, with no shine or oil spots.
05Aperture ring: Ask the seller to turn the front aperture ring from f/2.8 to f/22. It should click at every stop, with the blades closing in step.
06Focus ring: On arrival, turn the focus from 0.3 m to infinity and back. It should feel smooth and even, with no grit or tight spots.
We'd buy the MC copy a Japan dealer grades Excellent and titles with caps, at $170 delivered, just under the band, or the $110 copy titled tested from a 99.5% seller. There are at least 42 for sale and most ask $180–260 delivered, nearly all from Japan dealers, and we saw no US sellers, so Japan shipping of up to $75 sits inside most of those prices. MC on the front ring marks the later copies from around 1981 or 1982, and all six elements are air-spaced, so separation isn't a worry and haze, fungus and oily blades are. Ask for a flashlight photo through the back and one of the blades at f/8, and skip the $402 copy at nearly twice the median and the 96.2% seller. It needs an Olympus OM adapter, and the model page lists the adapters by camera.
